| European Night Without Accident 2010 |
|
On October 16, 2010 “Open Youth” and the Ministry of Health through the its local branches will hold events for the third time as part of the annual European campaign European night without incident. More than forty volunteers passed the initial training for the campaign. The goal is to raise the public awareness on the problems of road safety and to encourage young people not to combine alcohol with driving. Volunteers aged 18 to 29 will be at the entrance of "Blue magic" discotheque (Targoviste) and the night clubs “Energy” (Razgrad), "88" (Silistra) and “Bacardi” (Dobrich), and will encourage the incoming youth to appoint one of them as designated driver. The latter will be asked to promise that s/he will remain sober throughout the night to ensure his safety and the one of his/her friends. If he/she agrees to participate, our volunteers will give him a bracelet as a sign of that promise. The designated driver will wear the bracelet when leaving the club, then he / she may voluntarily undergo alcohol / drug test to prove that he/she has kept the promise. If he/she did it he / she will be rewarded with small gifts. If not, our volunteers will try to persuade him/her to leave his/her car in a parking lot or to give the keys to a friend who was not drinking. The concept of the campaign again builds on the voluntary will and free choice of young people - choose to have fun, but choose to stay alive.
Since 2003, the European night without incident is supported by the European Commission. In 2010, the campaign will be held in all 27 member states of the European Union. |
