"Open Youth" launched its new project "My rights as a citizen of Europe! I'm on the move.", supported by the "Youth in Action" programme of the European Commission.
The project is a virtual simulation of the electoral process, during
which in an interesting and interactive way through personal
involvement, each person aged 18 to 30 years, who wants, can learn more
about the election’s technology and enrich his/her knowledge of the
European citizens' rights. Its main objectives are to provoke young
people to become more active citizens; to help them understand the
mechanisms of representative democracy in its Bulgarian version; to
become motivated to learn more about their European citizens' rights; to
train between 36 and 90 young people as ambassadors of democratic
citizenship through the Council of Europe and the European Union
"Democratic Citizenship" scheme; to enable every Bulgarian person to
participate in the development of a youth declaration, reflecting the
interests of young people in Bulgaria, which will be disseminated on
national level in end of the project.
"The crisis has shown clearly that we need citizens, able to solve their
own problems." said Mrs. Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for
education, culture, multilingualism and youth, during the Hungarian
Presidency.
