On April 25, 2014 a joint road safety initiative of the Dobrich "Road Safety Advocates" team and "Open Youth" will be carried out.

The initiative will take place in the Municipal city hall starting at 15:00 and will involve:
• alco- and drugvision goggles, simulating vision under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and what is the effect on human capabilities;
• driving simulator, recreating risky driving situations;
• specially designed weight calculator, showing everyone how heavy his/her body is in a collision with a given speed (50, 90 or 130 km/h);
• puzzle showing the participant the inability of a person to do two different activities at the same concentration;
The team is comprised of:
1. Maria-Magdalena Simeonova Ruseva, student at “Geo Milev” language high, very talented and ambitious girl who is interested in music, literature and poetry. 
2. Irina Ivanova Dimova, psychologist and a driver with a little over 5 year experience. She has participated in numerous initiatives and actions as a part of the city’s youth council.
3. Pavlina Jivkova Ivanova, journalist, actively involved in the organization of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. She has also made several broadcasts and video clips on road safety issues.
The team of youngsters audited the newly built roundabout on “3-ti Mart” boulevard and “Gen. Kolev” street. A total of 900 vehicles were observed committing 1030 violations and 7 pedestrians almost half of which failed to cross the streets properly at the designated locations. Major issue in the round about is failure to give the right of way, 30% of all drivers. 28% failed to maintain appropriate distance, 17% are driving aggressively or behaving rudely and another 17% make unauthorized stops and 15% are changing lanes without signaling first.
The team concluded that a change in the traffic light pattern (longer green light in one direction) of the nearby crossroad during rush hours, combined with stricter parking enforcement will dramatically decrease the traffic problem in the spot. 
The project "Road Safety Advocates" is co-financed under the "Youth in Action" program of the European Union, action 1.3 by NC "EYPI". It is aimed at educating young people not only to detect problems but also to look for solutions.
