"Little fireflies" initiative for pedestrian safety
Many accidents occur because pedestrians that drivers of motor vehicles cannot see each other in the darkness until it's too late. By setting the clock to winter time, this problem becomes even greater.
Wearing appropriate clothing or reflective elements increases the chance a person to be seen on time. Visibility = safety! In response to this challenge on October 29, 2013 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. "Open Youth" together with Ministry of Interior Local Directorate in Vidin, will carry out an initiative in "Clover" kindergarten, Vidin, entitled "Little fireflies" aimed at increasing the safety of the youngest and most vulnerable road users. Representatives of "Open Youth" will give away reflectors for the children pedestrians, arriving in the kindergarten. They can hang them on their backpacks or clothes to twinkle like little fireflies in the dim winter. Responsible parents, who drive with their children in car seats, will be given antistress figures (traffic light) and single breathalyzer tests with the idea to work together to reduce the risk of aggressive and risky behavior on the road.
The campaign titled "Little fireflies" is held in the month of pedestrian safety, announced by the State-Public Consultative Commission on safety of road users, and is part of the "Open Youth" prevention of risky behavior program, designed to raise awareness of the problem of road safety in early childhood.
