On April 02, 2014 a joint road safety initiative of the Sliven "Road Safety Advocates" team and "Open Youth" will be carried out. The initiative will take place on "NTS" square at 3 p.m. and will involve: • alco- and drugvision goggles, simulating vision under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and what is the effect on human capabilities; • driving simulator, recreating risky driving situations; • pecially designed weight calculator, showing everyone how heavy his/her body is in a collision with a given speed (50, 90 or 130 km/h); • puzzle showing the participant the inability of a person to do two different activities at the same concentratio. The team consist of four young people and is supervised by Desislava Svetoslavova Pavlova. The team is young and enthusiastic and is gathered by the idea of being active citizen to contribute to safe traffic on the streets. Their desire is to raise awareness of responsible driving, observing traffic rules by all participants and contributing to reducing tensions on the road. The young people did an audit at the T - Junction of "Panayot Khitov" blvd., "Dobri Dimitrov" and "Georgi Rakovski" streets for an hour, watching the violations carried out by drivers and pedestrians. The team concluded that there is a lack of appropriate road markings and signs, which could help limit violations and suggested as a solution to this problem to refresh the marking and build ramps for people with disabilities. The project "Road Safety Advocates" is co-financed under the "Youth in Action" program of the European Union, action 1.3 by NC "EYPI". It is aimed at educating young people not only to detect problems but also to look for solutions. |
