A survey, focused on perceptions of the drivers of the level of aggressiveness on the road, was conducted in 2008 in 12 European countries on a request of "Open Youth" and partners. It revealed startling data for Bulgaria.

89% of drivers surveyed agree with the opinion that the aggressiveness on the road had increased over the past five years. Meanwhile, 54 percent describe themselves as discourteous and almost two thirds of those are placed in the column as very discourteous, which puts us in fourth place among the respondents. The victims of aggressive behavior place their colleagues on second place with 61% of cases displaying obscene gestures and 57% of these cases using foul language during the 12 months preceding the survey.

On July 25, 2012 at 10:00 am in Sofia with a press conference, held at the General Directorate "National Police" at 1 "Alexander Malinov" Blvd. (entrance from the American College), a joint campaign under the motto "Drive responsibly and courteously” will launched by "Open Youth" and the Traffic Police department. The campaign will be based on a special police operation using the broader control in combination with positive intervention of representatives of "Open Youth" towards encouraging responsible driving and reduction of road aggression at the beginning of the active summer season. After the press conference, journalists will be invited to attend the action, conducted in the city of Sofia. After the Capital the campaign will visit the districts of Plovdiv (July 26), Sliven (27 July), Burgas (28 July) and Haskovo (29 July).

The campaign "Drive responsibly and courteously" is part of the international project AVENUE, supported by DG "Mobility and Transport" of the European Commission and of the overall program "Drive responsibly" of "Open Youth". Its launch coincides with the Fourth European Road Safety Day to be held by the European Commission in Nicosia (Cyprus), entitled " Active Involvement of Youth in Road Safety", and within which "Open Youth" will be represented by two participants.
