Young people enjoy the role of volunteers and like to help

63% of young people, participating as volunteers in the activities, organized within the project "Volunteer! ... through road safety", had as their main motivation to donate free time and efforts, the desire to help people.

49% indicated their interest in the prevention of alcohol abuse and subsequent driving. Only at third place with 39 percent comes the desire to acquire skills with potential future application in professional life. The other possible answers were listed by less than ¼ of the volunteers involved. This became clear from the evaluation of the project, which was presented by Mr. Axel Druart, President of the European Youth Forum for Road Safety of the European Commission. Mr. Druart studied the feedback of 121 volunteers that participated in public actions in Bulgaria and Belgium.

The study also revealed many other interesting facts such as:
- 89% of volunteers discuss with friends risky driving;
- 70% of the volunteers had personally discussed the problematic issues with more than 50 people during the day of the respective action;
- 99% of volunteers recommend the project best practice to be disseminated and used in other Member States of the European Union;
- 96% of volunteers would like to be involved again in such a campaign;
- 57% of volunteers prefer to participate in single actions, while 43% of them would rather be involved in long-term campaigns.

Of particular interest to "Open Youth" as project leader is that:
- The concept of the campaign has met the expectations of 95% of volunteers;
- The one-day training for volunteers prior to involving them was sufficient to allow 94% of them to engage without problems in the implemented activities. 24% of them indicate the training  as the most interesting part of the project.
- The support of the organizers was considered positive by 99% of volunteers;
- 39% of volunteers indicated the project tools (driving simulator, alcogoggles) as the most interesting part to the visitors. 26% identify them as the most interesting to themselves, too.
- 79% of volunteers provide an overall assessment of the project of 5 (5 being the maximum). The remaining 21% give a score of 4.
