A new project for saving LIVES
"Open Youth" is kicking off a new initiative to boost efforts of NGOs from a number of East European EU member states under the name LIVES (Local Innovative adVentures to Ensure quality in youth road Safety promotion).

On the 5th of April 2013 the project preparation meeting took place in Budapest, Hungary with the participation of representatives of:

- Open Youth, Bulgaria;

- Hajdúsági Hallgatókért és Civilekért Egyesület, Hungary;

- KRZYS Foundation, Poland;

- Association for Youth and Students in Partium, Romania;

- Združenie autoškôl Slovenskej republiky, Slovakia;

- Varna pot, Zavod za pomoc žrtvam prometnih nesrec, preventivo, vzgojo in izobraževanje, Slovenia.

The project will be addressing an issue of European importance (road safety) in countries, generally lagging behind in reaching set European targets such as Poland (102), Bulgaria (102), Romania (111), and to a less extent Slovenia (68) and Hungary (74) that have a road deaths rate per population by far above the EU average of 61 deaths per million population in 2010 (source: CARE database and national data). The project builds on previous experience and evaluator’s recommendations from past projects, incl. "Volunteer! … through road safety", disseminating results to other European countries and contexts, facilitating exchange of successful practices and improving the quality of implementation through innovative approaches (volunteer buddy) and technologies (portable eco-driving simulator).

LIVES is co-funded by the European Union through the "Youth in Action" programme, Action 4.4.
